SINAP — LF1 for Thorium-based Molten Salt Reactor (TMSR)

The thorium-based molten salt reactor (TMSR) is a Generation IV advanced nuclear energy system that uses thorium as fuel and high-temperature molten salt as coolant. It offers significant advantages, including operation without water cooling, functioning at atmospheric pressure, and delivering high-temperature output. As a leading representative of fourth-generation nuclear fission technology, it not only achieves leapfrog improvements in safety performance and energy efficiency but also holds the potential to resolve China's long-standing dependence on imported nuclear fuel—securing the country’s position at the forefront of global molten salt reactor technology. This technological pathway aligns with China’s abundant thorium resources and can be deeply integrated with industries such as solar and wind power, high-temperature molten salt energy storage, high-temperature hydrogen production, and coal-chemical and oil-chemical processing, thereby contributing to a multi-energy complementary, low-carbon integrated energy system. Our company has successfully supplied key components for the TMSR, including the safety vessel, residual heat removal heat exchanger, intermediate plates, and decay tanks.

The sodium-cooled fast reactor (SFR) is a type of reactor that uses liquid sodium as a coolant and relies on fast neutrons to sustain the nuclear fission chain reaction. As the most technologically mature and extensively developed design among the Generation IV nuclear energy systems, it represents a key direction for the future of nuclear power. The Core Barrel and the Large Grid Plate Assembly serve as the foundational "skeleton" and "blood circulation system" of the reactor core. These components feature complex structures, stringent dimensional and geometric tolerance requirements, and pose significant manufacturing challenges. Our company has successfully completed the supply of two sets of these critical products.
